A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Lobo greeted the runner with a relaxed demeanor allowing himself to be leashed and removed from the kennel. Lobo was taken to the catch pen and was collared and leashed without issue. Lobo greeted the dogs at the barrier with a neutral demeanor and was allowed into the play yard. Lobo displayed a relaxed body, open mouth pant, natural ear set, neutral tail with a relaxed wag, and soft eyes. He bypassed the dogs and approached the handlers, becoming loose and wiggly. The dogs continued to approach and sniffed him. Lobo was tolerant but did not like the dogs sniffing/greeting around his face. When dogs were around Lobo?s face, he flashed teeth and gave appropriate corrections. The dogs gave him space and after some time Lobo acclimated and exchanged greetings appropriately. Lobo continued to socialize nicely with the other dogs but did not engage in play. Lobo frequently approached the handlers to seek engagement, becoming loose and wiggly when receiving petting/affection. Lobo could benefit from continued socialization and confidence building.
