About Hubbard

Animal ID: A5737053 Date Admitted to County Care: 2025-11-05T00:00:00 Animal Type: DOG Availability Status: AV BET Primary Breed: PIT BULL Primary Color: BR BRINDLE Sex: Male Size: LARGE Weight: 60 Age: 7 years 0 months Hubbard came in as a stray with no one coming forward for him. He is fractious and nervous. The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He had a loose body and an open mouth pant as the handler walked him into the catch pen. He approached the handler with a loose body as the handler kneeled next to him. The had a loose body as the handler rubbed his head, upper back and while looking in his ears. He was not comfortable with the handler's hand near his teeth and he lowered his head with concerned eyes. He was slightly resistant, pressing his paw on the ground when the handler lifted his front paws. He did not resist his rear paws being held. He remained loose as the handler held his tail. Once the assessment was concluded, he came back up to the handler, seeking engagement and affection while leaning against the handler. He needs trust building and a go-slow approach initially. He was taken back to his kennel without issue. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REC) FEMALE DOGS ONLY (REQ), MEDIUM ENERGY He would lightly flinch as the runner touched his body while placing the collar around his neck. He had a light body tremble initially but relaxed with light coaxing and eventually solicited affection. He entered the yard with a tense body, tolerating a few dogs coming up to greet him. He avoided direct nose-to-nose greetings as he turned his head away. He appeared to be more interested in smelling and exploring the area than the other dogs. A young, intact female retriever came up to greet him. Hubbard focused on her and began trailing her and attempted to mount her for several minutes. Despite the handlers separating them several times, he continued to go back to her. He was approached by a male pit bull and male Malinois on separate occasions. He completely ignored them and did not stop to let them greet him. He would become tense and raise his hackles but never showed any negative behavior other than that. He was enticed to paly by a female pit bull and the female retriever at one point. He ignored their play attempt and focused on mounting them. As the handlers separated the females from the yard, Hubbard was approached by the male Malinois again. The Malinois came up slowly to greet Hubbard. Hubbard exposed his teeth and growled as the Malinois sniffed his body. He was removed from the yard soon after. Hubbard appears to be selective and may do best with an altered female dog. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REC), FEMALE DOGS ONLY (REQ), MEDIUM ENERGY
