Detective Max

Intake Info: Detective Max (A2312989) is a young, energetic dog?estimated around 4 years old?who was found roaming alone at a gas station near the Boca Raton city complex. Medical: Max is heartworm negative, fully processed, and neutered. During his vet exam, he was noted to have mild inflammation in both ear canals with a suspected mild ear infection. He was also treated for kennel cough during his stay. Staff Notes: Very high-energy and happy dog! Volunteer Notes: Max is friendly, playful, and eager to get outside. He pulls a bit when heading to the yard, but once there he is social, rambunctious, and fully engaged. He sits for treats, takes them gently, and listens well. He had no issues being leashed or brought out of the kennel and showed no negative reactions toward other dogs. Volunteers describe him as super fun, smart, and very people-friendly. He has a strong medium energy level, is highly treat-motivated, and eager to learn. Max knows sit and down and has even nearly mastered roll over! He walks well on a leash with only minor pulling and loves attention?especially belly rubs. He would make an active family very happy. Behavior Notes: Max presents with a neutral body and a steerable gate greeting. In playgroup, he engages appropriately in push/pull play and mouth fencing with both male and female dogs. He shows good social play behaviors and participates well. Request to Rescues: Recently, Detective Max has begun growling and showing barrier frustration toward strangers when inside his kennel, making him not show well in the shelter environment. However, outside the kennel and in playgroups, he continues to interact appropriately and display his true, happy, social personality. We believe the most compassionate and appropriate next step for Detective Max is to transition out of the stressful shelter environment and into a rescue placement where he can decompress, continue learning, and enjoy the love and structure he?s craving.
