About Willa

Intake Info: Willa (A2321664) came into our care after her owner was arrested. When our Animal Care & Control officer arrived, Willa showed no signs of aggression, but she was extremely scared when being placed in a kennel. Medical: Willa is heartworm negative, fully processed, and up to date on vaccines. She has had a relapse of kennel cough and is currently receiving treatment. She has also been treated for FAS. Staff Notes: On 10/30, Willa was observed shaking in her kennel, scared, and unwilling to approach the kennel doors, still adjusting to the shelter environment. The following day, she continued to show stress, even refusing treats. On 11/04, a kennel tech reported that Willa was timid at first but quickly began wagging her tail and rolling over for belly rubs. She leashed easily and was non-reactive to other dogs while walking through the kennel. Once outside, she became bouncy with excitement and was playful and friendly with staff at the picnic table. Some time went by and finally the clinic team processed her and noted she was a sweet girl! And our Vet noted she is a happy, wiggly girl when comfortable. Volunteer Notes: Willa is eager to go out to the yard and shows no shyness. She is playful, jumpy, occasionally nips during play, and is interested in interacting with dogs in the catch pens. She will sit for treats and enjoys engaging with people she knows. Behavior Notes: When meeting with Willa, she initially needed support from a familiar person to walk outside. Once outside, she began to relax and leaned into human touch, allowing petting without flinching. Willa opens up more when meeting strangers alongside someone she trusts, showing she responds well to patient, repeated interactions. She will need continued, gentle socialization to build confidence with new people. Request to Rescues: Willa urgently needs a rescue placement. She does not thrive in the shelter environment, often appearing withdrawn and scared, though she interacts beautifully with people she knows. She becomes depressed when left alone in her kennel and clearly craves companionship. Willa needs a rescue to scoop her under their wing, where she can find a loving family and the stability she deserves. The goal is to prevent her from shutting down further in the shelter and give her the chance to flourish in a home that can cherish her as much as she will cherish them. Please come meet Willa today, she is ready to find someone to trust and love. Animal ID A2321664 Color blk/brw Sex unsterilized female Size large Weight 59 lbs. Age 1 year 2 months
