Description Owner surrender and history of aggression reason: Fighting with other dog and destructive Playgroup: ?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He became reactive toward the dogs through the fence, growling and barking. He entered the yard with soft body language. He was approached by a male Pitbull. He immediately became tense and began to growl with a pursed mouth. The male Pitbull remained relaxed and slowly walked away. Leo began to tensely trail him and hover near his neck. A handler broke his focus using a spray bottle and the male Pitbull continued to walk away. He was then approached by a female Pitbull. He immediately became tense as she approached, with a forward body posture and growling, when she was still around six feet away. As she got closer, he began to growl louder and exposed his teeth. The female Pitbull turned and walked away. As she walked away, he growled, gave a huff, and stomped his front paws. He was then removed from the yard at this time. Due to his behavior in the yard toward the other dogs and his history of altercations in the previous home, he will be designated as no other dogs required. Due to these prior altercations with another dog in the previous home, he will require a known history of aggression disclosure form. Handling: ?The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. He was taken to the catch pen for the handling assessment after play group. He was given a moment to acclimate to his surroundings. The handler knelt and called to him, but he did not approach. The handler slowly approached him and picked up his leash. He had concerned eyes and a tucked tail. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch and lift all his paws with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail with no reaction. Although he allowed the handling, he had concerned eyes and a tucked tail the entire time. He displayed no negative or concerning behavior toward the handler during the handling, but he is timid and does best with a go-slow approach. He was returned to his kennel without issue. Due to his need for a slower approach, he would do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids.
