A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Kita greeted the runner and was easy to leash and remove from the kennel without issue. Kita was taken to the catch pen and was easy to collar and leash. She greeted the dogs at the barrier with a timid demeanor and was guided into the play yard. Kita displayed a tense body, closed mouth, tucked tail, ears back, and soft eyes. Kita moved away from the dogs that came to greet her and used the handlers as a shield. The dogs were steered away, allowing Kita to acclimate to the yard. She appeared affectionate towards the handlers frequently seeking their attention/petting. In one instance a handler briefly sat and Kita climbed into their lap and sat on them displaying a relaxed demeanor. Kita appeared loose and wiggly around the handlers but became slightly tense when approached by other dogs. She tolerated the calm dogs but didn?t appear interested in them. If any of the dogs attempted to play with her, Kita flashed her teeth and gave soft corrections. Kita was able to co-exist in the play yard but appeared to prefer to be amongst the handlers. Kita appeared wary of the dogs but was able to co-exist and displayed no play style. Kita could benefit from further socialization and confidence building. Kita is ok for public adoption medium energy level calm dogs required at this time.
