Kelsey
Hound (mix breed)
Urgent: Last Day
Scheduled: November 26, 2025
Reason: Other
Intake Info: Kelsey (A1970534) was brought in as an owner surrender after her family reported she attacked another dog. She is 7 years old and had lived with them for six years. Despite this long history, her family requested humane euthanasia at surrender, giving up on her during one of the most important stages of her life. In our care, Kelsey has been gentle, social, and well-mannered with staff. She truly deserves another chance. Medical: Kelsey is heartworm negative, spayed, and fully processed. During intake, she was noted to be headshaking. Our clinic team cleaned her ears and administered topical treatment. She remains on treatment for an ear infection. As of 11/04, her ears show significant inflammation, her right ear has thickened skin and fibrosis consistent with chronic inflammation or an old hematoma. She will benefit from continued anti-allergy medications to address the underlying inflammation. A soft, grape-sized subcutaneous mass was observed in her left armpit area. A sample attempt produced clear, greasy material?suspected lipoma. No treatment is needed at this time, but monitoring is recommended for any growth that may impact mobility. Behavior Notes: Kelsey has participated in playgroup multiple times and has been described as steerable with neutral greetings. She has socialized appropriately with both male and female dogs. However, she was involved in a mouth fencing incident through the barrier on 10/25, both dogs exchanged snarls and snapped, and Kelsey made contact through the fence but caused no injury. On 11/04, she socialized briefly, then kept to herself. On 11/19, she was observed growling, snapping, and barking at dogs when walked through the kennels. Volunteer Notes: Kelsey is friendly and appears housebroken. Request to Rescues: Kelsey has a strong history of positive interactions with other dogs, but she is now clearly overwhelmed in the shelter environment. Her recent barrier frustration episodes reflect stress and overstimulation?not her true personality. Kelsey was already given up once, she does not deserve another failed chance at life. She thrived in a stable home, can play and interact appropriately, but can no longer cope in the shelter setting. Kelsey urgently needs a rescue to give her the miracle she deserves, a safe, calm space where she can decompress, feel secure, and begin again.
